Try Hockey for Free Day, Big Success!

2014-11-10

Coach Jeremy explains Sharks and Minnows at the end of Try Hockey for Free Day skate

Big turn out for Try Hockey for Free Day!

Saturday November 8th Tri-Town was host to one of thousands of Try Hockey for Free Day events across the United States.  This day is run by USA Hockey to give more kids, ages 4 to 9, a chance to try hockey for the first time.

We are proud to announce we had 42 kids come and participate in the hour long skills practice.  The kids were split up into two groups.  Kids who already knew how to skate and those who did not. One of our figure skating coaches took the kids who did not know how to skate and work on a few basic skating skills.  Coach Jeremy took all the other kids and worked passing, stick handing, and skating.  After a few minutes of drills the kids got to scrimmage for 10 minutes, and then the practice ended with the classic game of Sharks and Minnows, which is always a fan favorite with young hockey players.

Every child who participated was entered into raffle to win some pretty amazing prizes. Thanks to Reilly Smith of the Boston Bruins and Jonathan Quick of the LA Kings for donating signed pucks.  We also donated two gift certificates, one for our Learn-to-Play program and one for our Learn-to-Skate program.
Winners
Reilly Smith Signed Puck: Jacob Sheff
Jonathan Quick Signed Puck: Matthew Masewic
    Learn-to-Play Gift Certificate: Ryan McMahon
    Learn-to-Skate Gift Certificate: Aubrey Yazbek

We hope to see all the kids back at Tri-Town very soon in one of our programs.  Make sure you like us on Facebook to see pictures form the event and future updates.
